Benoit Descary is a partner at DVCOM and a digital strategy consultant based in Montreal. For more than 20 years, he has helped organisations understand — then get ahead of — every shift in the web: from the first social networks to generative search engines.
Benoit belongs to that rare generation of consultants who documented the social web from day one: his blog descary.com, launched in 2005, became a leading French-language reference on web tools and social media, with a readership reaching well beyond Quebec. That front-row vantage point made him a sought-after explainer — invited four times as a speaker at LeWeb in Paris, one of Europe’s largest technology gatherings, and closing speaker at the Université d’été de la francophonie des Amériques in Edmonton.
As an author, he co-wrote “Go Live” (éditions Kawa), a definitive guide to live streaming on social media, alongside Pierre-Philippe Cormeraie and Damien Douani.
A consultant since 2006, Benoit has delivered more than 2000 engagements for Quebec SMBs: digital strategy, search optimisation, website builds, content and team training. A DVCOM partner since the early 2010s, he forms a complementary duo with Denis Paul Vanchestein — strategic depth on one side, fine-grained command of tools and platforms on the other. Today, his playing field is the one DVCOM has made its own: GEO, or how to make businesses visible inside the answers of ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google’s AI Overviews.
At DVCOM, every engagement gets two perspectives: that of Denis Paul Vanchestein, a marketing strategist since the 90s, and that of Benoit, a craftsman of the social web and digital tools since their earliest days. Two different paths, one shared conviction: technology — AI included — is only worth something when it serves measurable business goals.
Benoit writes every article on the Descary marketing blog and has designed a suite of free marketing tools for Quebec SMBs.
